A Public Announcement

I felt compelled to write something special today because, until I really thought about it this morning, I didn’t realize how weird it is going to be to lay “The KiD” to rest at Get Shifty this Saturday (Aug 11).  For those of you that don’t know already, I am embarking on a new music project.  This has been a choice I have deliberated over for pretty much the entirety of 2012, and there are many reasons that I have chosen to do so.  First, and probably most apparent, I’m growning up.  The KiD (or duhKiD) was a name that fit me ever so gracefully for the last 5 years, it’s become a nickname that friends and colleagues call me by, and it is something that even I have come to identify myself very closely with.  However, when I started this musical journey back in 2007, I never could have anticipated the heights to which I am now determined to rise to in 2012, and the absolute conviction I have to make this my career — for as long as this world will have me.  Coupled with this, is the obvious issue (in these oversaturated times) of conflicting names on iTunes and Beatport.  The KiD is not the most original name ever (duh), and because of that, others have claimed the right to it with official releases before I could make my mark.  Such is the world we live in, and it’s just something that I’ve had to accept.

BUT, the end is only the beginning, and like the phoenix, from the ashes rises a new flame.  So, Neo Fresco is the new name of the game.  It’s the same Kyle you have always seen onstage rocking and raving like I always do, but the new identity provides me with a new opportunity to re-invent my sound (as a producer), and is a moniker that I feel I can truly grow into.  It is the New Fresh.  It will probably seem weird for you at first, but eventually I hope you will come support me in this next chapter of my musical career.  I still have so many goals that I’ve yet to accomplish, but I can say with great pride that after years of hard work and learning from the best, I’ve truly stepped up my producer and DJ game to a whole new level.

On September 1st, I will be officially launching the new project in its entirety.  Although my twitter’s already switched over, and you’ve already seen a couple releases under the new name on my soundcloud (.com/neofresco) — September 1st will be the day that I debut my new show for you at our monthly Get Shifty at Central, and it will also be the day that I release my new FREE EP for you.  I’ve elected to give it out for free because, I want the music to speak for itself as an explanation of why I’ve decided to make this transformation.  The EP is going to be titled Lost Boy and is comprised of 6 new songs to showcase the sound of Neo Fresco.  I’ve been keeping these tracks under wraps for awhile, and it feels so great to be in the final stages before the unveiling.  The art and logos, and all that good stuff is being put together as I speak, but for now I want to release the official tracklist for all of you to see.

So:  please help me move forward by doing a couple things.

1.  Come out to Get Shifty this Saturday and help me send The KiD off with a bang.  I’d love to see all of you there (even though I’ll be opening up the main room to give our homies better shifts).

2.  Follow Neo Fresco on facebook. (all of my other social media platforms are able to be transferred, but unfortunately facebook is a different story)

3.  Stay tuned for more and more updates as September 1st approaches, and share this with whomever you think will care.

And of course… thank you so much to each and every one of you who has helped me reach this point, and supported me throughout the years.  It would be impossible for me to have done any of this without your blessings, and it means the world to me to know that I have people holding me up, and watching my back.  I’ll keep fighting the good fight for you and for good music, if you keep throwing up the dub for me.
