The Weekly Shift

Posted 09 August 2012 | The Weekly Shift

Beloved Shifty Nation:

Time to round em up. You know the drill. Bringing you some of the most shifty tunes circling the world wide web in one concise post. All genres. No discrimination.

To kick things off, we have the solo debut of up and coming Hip-Hop Producer Hit Boy (of Kanye West and Jay-Z’s  N****S in Paris & A$AP Rocky’s Goldie). The stand out track on the mixtape is the title track “HITstory”, which has Hit Boy reveal his rise to producer succes via a stunning narrative. Many, including the Producer/Rapper himself, have sited Kanye West as a major influence on his music, and it is clearly evident in it’s entirety on the track “HITstory”.The deep piano melody coupled with the angelic choir samples and dark strings help Hit Boy tell a story worth listening to from front to back. Next up is a wild one from the Los Angeles based trio Three Loco, made up of Andy Milonakis, Dirt Nasty, and recent Mad Decent signee, RiFF RAFF. All three of these guys are unique entertainers in their own right, and when combined, the concoction is irresistible. With an incredibly catchy beat based on the State Farm jingle produced by the homie Derek “DJA” Allen, there is just something about this one that is hard to deny. After all, there’s a farmer in all of us…

This next track has been garnering a good amount of attention due to the artists featured on it, specifically 2 Chainz and Meek Mill (largely in part due to their upcoming albums “Based on a T.R.U. Story” and “Dreams and Nightmares”, respectively). The track is hosted by DJ Drama and Produced by T-Minus (of Drake’s “HYFR” and Lil Wayne ft. Drake’s “She Will”). The track opens up with T-Minus’s signature synth sound and features a hook by R&B singer Jeremih (of “Birthday Sex” fame) which flows as cohesively as any Drake hook would over a similar production. 2 Chainz and Meek Mill fill in the rest with their signature style giving the track balance from beginning to end. Check it out below and make sure to keep an ear out for everyone involved in this one in the very near future…

Staying in the similar realm of the previous tune, this next one is proving itself to be a classic, and rightfully so, it’s by the one and only Juicy J. With a bass heavy beat by up and coming producer of the recent hit, “No Lie“, Mike WiLL Made It (he was just Mike WiLL until the infamous Gucci Mane rapped “Mike WiLL made it, Gucci Mane slayed it” and the producer immediately changed his name) provides Juicy J with the energy the rapper needs for his delivery. This remix has Lil Wayne going in on the second half in a way reminiscent to a lot of his older work. Stream and download the track below courtesy of the good folks over at The Fader

To finish things off, we bring you a track from a fairly unknown producer from Los Angeles by the name of Kaw. Listening to hundreds of tracks on Soundcloud on a weekly basis can start to feel discouraging, but it’s when you come across someone like this or a track like the one below that truly restores your faith in up and coming bedroom producers. Not much can be said about Kaw at the moment, so we will let his music speak for itself. Check out one this “FREEBEAT” titled “Zooted” below and remember to keep working hard everyone, the Red Panda is always watching…

Stay Shifty,

Nold
