The Weekly Shift

Posted 11 October 2012 | The Weekly Shift

SHIFTY NATION:

You know what time it is. We got a collection of tunes gathered to set your weekend off right, so without further ado, let’s get right into it…

First up in this edition of “The Weekly Shift” we have a new remix from New Orleans based DJ and Producer, Jim-E Stack. Stack employees his signature sound early on in this one, with a gliding synth line very reminiscent of his bootleg of A$AP Rocky’s Purple Swag. The track, titled “Lullabies”, is originally by Yuna, a Malaysian singer and songwriter, whose voice pairs well with the melodic bounce of Stack’s productions. Check it out below and grab your free copy courtesy of The Fader‘s Soundcloud

Our next selection comes to us in the form of a Frank Ocean remix by Texas based producer Le Doom. Le Doom has been making a name for himself across all genres of Electronic music, with a vast array of tracks to his name ranging from freebies to official releases on well respected labels. His take on Pyramids is a relaxed and melodic progression revolving around higher and lower pitched vocal segments, giving the track a life of its own very different from the original. Le Doom loves his fans and was therefore nice enough to give this one away for free in order to thank them for reaching 100,000 plays on his Soundcloud. Rick Ross, boss of Maybach Music Group, just released his latest mixtape titled “The Black Bar Mitzvah”. With features from Drake, 2 Chainz, Pharrell and productions from some heavy hitters in the game, this entire release is exactly what fans of the MMG empire expect from the CEO himself. Staying in the hip-hop realm, we have a new cut off the upcoming MHz Legacy LP featuring Detroit rapper Danny Brown with production by Harry Fraud. MHz Legacy is an Ohio based collective composed of Def Jux members RJD2, Copywrite, Jakki Da Motamouth and Tage Future, all of whom have had success in the underground rap scene for years. The track “Spaceship” is highly energetic and perfect for a Danny Brown guest spot, fitting nicely with the flow of the MHz Legacy crew. To top things off this week, we have the newest work from recent Mad Decent/Jeffree’s signed artist Djemba Djemba. The following is what the Los Angeles based producer calls a “retwerk” of Lil Texas‘ “I Need You”, which results in a high energy pop track infused with his signature style, all while maintaining the integrity of the original. Djemba Djemba decided to release this one for free, so check it out below and grab your copy via his Soundcloud
